The Saving the City documentary series is a unique documentary series with related educational material that chronicles cities, past and present. We pose the question: How can we ensure a better future for our cities?
We recently resumed editing our opening two 60-minute episodes after Covid froze fundraising for almost two years. During this time, we produced five new preview videos set in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, San Diego, San Francisco and Los Angeles as well as established a robust presence on all the major social media platforms.
The goal of making cities better places is nothing new. While affordable housing, inadequate infrastructure and social and economic inequities are some of the problems facing today’s cities, these issues have bedeviled planners and policymakers, and builders and developers, going back to the 19th century.
The opening episodes of the Saving the City documentary series lay the foundation for the rest of the series, which is focused on current issues with a look to the future. Telling stories through the eyes of people who live and work in the city, we compare and contrast how different cities approach the same issue so as to learn from their experiences.
